What Is the Hush Muff, and How Does It Help My Dog?

The Hush Muff is a soft, comfortable cover for your dog's ears. It is designed to gently block out loud and frightening sounds. It can help reduce noise from fireworks, storms, travel and other loud environments that might make dogs feel anxious, stress or reactive.
The Hush Muff creates a soothing sensation around their head, promoting relaxation. Similar to how noise-reducing earwear can support individuals with sensory sensitivities, the Hush Muff offers comfort and reassurance for dogs who are sensitive to sound.

How Effective Is the Hush Muff at Reducing Noise? How Much Does the Hush Muff Reduce Noise By?

The Hush Muff provides a measurable reduction in noise levels for dogs, based on independent audio testing:
- It attenuates 6–12 dB in lower to mid-range frequencies (<300 Hz to 3 kHz), which include typical rumble and traffic-related sounds.
 - For higher frequencies (>4 kHz)—like fireworks, alarms, or high-pitched thunder—it reduces noise by up to 12–18 dB.

Since decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, a reduction of ~6 dB cuts perceived loudness in half, and ~12 dB cuts it to a quarter of the original volume.

How Do I Choose the Right Size for My Dog?

Measure the widest (or biggest) part of your dog’s head and find the corresponding size on our size guide.

really fantastic up to now, firework test to come. keeps him calm
Our dog is happy to wear the hush muff and it does calm him down. We’re not sure if it is the hush muff that calms him down as he’s not sure what it is or if it helps against the loud noises. Either way he is calmer.
Thank you for sharing this. Even if it’s hard to know exactly what part is helping, we’re so glad to hear your pup feels calmer either way. That little bit of extra comfort can make all the difference ✨
I wasn’t entirely convinced that these would work but we tried one initial on one of our JRT who was terrified of our Motorhome, she was calmer, then on the second - what a difference. Having used it and then not (couldn’t find it) the difference was massive.
That’s amazing feedback! We’re so glad you gave it a try and saw such a difference with both of your JRTs. It’s incredible how quickly they can relax once they feel secure and we know exactly what you mean about noticing the difference when it’s not there!
Got this for fireworks primarily. Our Greyhound started to be anxious in 2024, but had not displayed any concerns over fireworks for 2 years previously. However, we had a heavy, rumbling storm a week or so ago, and she began to display anxiety again. We tried the Hush Muff for the first time, and it certainly appeared to help her
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review. It’s really common for dogs to develop new sensitivities over time, and storms can be just as unsettling as fireworks. We're so glad the Hush Muff helped your Greyhound feel more settled,it’s designed not just for fireworks, but for any moments of stress or anxiety, big or small. Whether it’s rumbles, bangs, or just an off day, we’re here to help bring a little more calm to their world. Give her a gentle ear rub from us!
Item looks good and is well made. It's taking a little longer for my boy to accept it as he's not keen on having anything on his ears. Patience and practice hopefully will help him.
Thank you for your review , Please drop us a message if you are having issues and I can direct you to some helpful videos. It can sometimes take a little training to get them comfortable in it
